Institute Policy

Student policy & code of conduct

Every enrolled student agrees to follow the attendance, submission and conduct rules below for the full duration of their programme.

Objectives

  • The Institute seeks, through its policy, to encourage all-round responsibility in every student.
  • It establishes guidelines for positive practice in behavioural issues and conduct within the Institute.
  • The aim is to maximise learning potential and ensure a positive climate for all stakeholders.

Participation & attendance

  • Success in class depends on a student's willingness to put effort into their work.
  • Students are expected to participate in all large and small group activities, exercises and discussions.
  • Participation helps you understand the subject matter and is considered when determining your final grade.
  • 75% attendance is compulsory in the course concerned; otherwise the Institute has the right to cancel your registration.
  • Attendance is taken at the beginning of class. Late-coming students are not allowed to enter the class.
  • If you are absent, it is your responsibility to contact a fellow student for missed handouts, notes or assignments.
  • For a planned absence of less than 3 days, inform the Admin department in writing with the date, reason, valid proof and your proposed timeline to make up missed work.

Note: No extra classes will be arranged for students taking leave or remaining absent.

Assignments & submission

  • The course outline for the entire term is provided on the first day of class.
  • It is your responsibility to understand the assignments and turn them in on time — ask questions early, not at the last minute.
  • Late work is not accepted. Each lesson relates to the current lecture topic, so keeping up is essential.
  • Absence is not an excuse for failing to complete assignments on time.
  • Assignments may change from what appears on your assignment sheet; if you miss a class, collect the assignment and handouts from a fellow student.

Note: Reading assignments are outlined in your course outline and should be read before class for maximum benefit.

Presentations, surveys & exams

  • Scheduled presentations, surveys and exams appear on the course outline.
  • There will also be a variety of unannounced assignments.
  • Presentations cannot be made up if missed.
  • As per Institute policy, final exams may not be given early or late for any reason.
